Obituary for Donald Ray Adams

Donald Ray   Adams
Donald Ray Adams, 83, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday July 21, 2018 peacefully at home. Don was born August 1, 1934 in Algiers, Indiana and was the son of the late George C. and Geneva (Benjamin) Adams.
Don graduated from Otwell High School in 1952 and attended Vincennes University and Oakland City College. He enlisted in the Indiana National Guard as a Reserve for 10 years.
Don was a businessman and moved to Bloomington in 1959 and worked at Sarkes Tarzian. From 1961-1965 he and Ralph Ridge co-owned the Ideal Stamp Company and Ideal Hobby Shop. In 1965 he and Ralph founded ATR Coil Company, Inc. Later in life Don went on to own several other businesses in Bloomington. He was an avid sports fan and supporter of IU Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty, their daughter, Debbie (Travis) Tate of Bloomington, 2 sons, Dennis and David (Pam) Adams of Bloomington. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Chantel (Doug) Patton, Katie (Nathan) McAninch, David Adams, Maddie Adams, Noah and Micah Tate, and 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Martha (Donnie) Horrell, and Nancy (Tom) Foster, 1 sister-in-law, Karen Adams and several nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Bill and Larry Adams, and his first wife of 20 years, Helen Prince.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at South Union Christian Church, 6510 S. Rockport Road, Bloomington with visitation from 9:00 am until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland Bean Blossom Youth Sports, Ellettsville, Indiana for Baseball Scholarships or Field Maintenance.
