Obituary for Rex Dean Deckard

Rex Dean  Deckard
Rex Dean Deckard 75, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday May 22, 2017 at IU Health Bloomington. Rex was born September 26, 1941 in Smithville and was the son of the late John L. and Opal (Todd) Deckard.
Rex attended Smithville High School. He was a founding member of the Van Buren Township Fire Department and was one of the "Original 4" drivers and crew. He had also worked for many years as a Masonry Contractor and was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local 25. Rex was a member and loved attending South Union Christian Church where he was active with their small groups. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a longtime "picker" and loved antiquing and auctions.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn (Sparks) Deckard of Bloomington, 4 children; Dr. Bethany Ann Murray (Jim) of Bloomington, Rev. Rex Deckard Jr. (Brenda) of Des Moines, IA, Cameron Deckard (Melanie) of Bloomington and Rebekah J. Waldrip (Tom) of Bloomington. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Christopher Murray (Tiffany), Scott Murray, Alexander Murray, Casey Crouch, Isaac Crouch, Emilie Hussey (Nathan), Rex Adam Deckard, Abigail Deckard, Amelia Deckard, Isabelle Deckard, Joshua Waldrip, and Joseph Waldrip (Teresa), 4 great grandchildren; Ava Worley, Zaedyn Hussey, London Hussey, and Ronin Loudenbarger, sister, Sharon Trinkle (Claude) of Bloomington and Joe D. Deckard Sr. of Bedford.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings; Dorothy Richardson, William Deckard, Doris Clark, Harold "Lefty" Deckard, Jack Deckard and Harold "Butch" Deckard.
Services for Rex will be 1:00 pm Friday May 26, 2017 at the South Union Christian Church, 6510 S. Rockport Road. Revs. Jim Cain and Rex Deckard Jr. will officiate the service and burial will follow at Greene County Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday May 25, 2017 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, and from 12:00 pm until service time on Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to; Greene County Chapel Cemetery, or South Union Christian Church Children's Programming or Benevolence Fund.
