Robert Lee Ewbank, 85, of Spencer died April 28, 2017 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born February 15, 1932 in Montgomery County, Indiana, he was the son of Estel (Cline) and Ora Ewbank. He was a 1950 graduate of New Market High School where he played the tuba in band and was a member of the cheer squad. He joined the Air Force in 1949 and reached the rank of Tech Sargent before retiring from active duty in 1963. He later joined the Air National Guard where he served for 11years before retiring in 1982. Most of his civilian life was spent as an insurance adjuster and in sales. He was also employed by the Relax Inn (Marshall, IL) from where he retired at the age of 83.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gaybrooke Sevison of San Francisco to whom he was married in 1952 and had 2 daughters; Bonnie Baker of Bloomington and Kathy Haines (John)of Chesapeake, VA. He married his second wife Tama in ---- and they had 2 sons; Jeff Ewbank (Tresa) of Bloomington and Mark Ewbank (Tanya) of Virginia Beach, VA.
Robert’s family rejoices in the fact that it was his desire to be baptized and this was able to be done the evening before his passing. He was surrounded by his family and he participated in singing and rejoicing in the Lord. His battle for life was lost but he was victorious.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Estel and Ora , one granddaughter, Nicki Baker (1979-2009) of Bloomington and a nephew, Rick Farrow of Chicago, IL (1958-1992).
Survivors include; His second wife Tama Ewbank of Spencer, 4 children; Bonnie, Kathy, Jeff, and Mark and their spouses, His sisters Betty Farrow (Richard) of Roachdale, IN, Mary Cloncs (Dave) of Ladoga, IN, Thirteen grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Life will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Ellettsville, IN on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:00 pm. Arrangements are through The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, IN 47401. Burial will be at the Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer at a later date.
